BioDetermination- the only word that fully describes me- whether you've met me for a second or you've grown up with me the word otherwise taken as "stubborn" completes how I live my life and how I am usually percieved. I'm a woman who stands up for what she believes in- not what is socially accepted. My way of thinking- I do what is true to me and if others find that cool than that's great, but I can't go against my beliefs to make society accept me. Words from my favorite musical (RENT): Take me leave me.
I'm a junior Women's Studies and Magazine Journalism dual major at Syracuse U. with a minor in sociology. My goal after I graduate- to go to grad school (masters and/or Ph.D.) for sociology or women's studies. Eventually I'd like to work with a progressive publication or a progressive political campaign. I currently have an on-campus magazine that is going into it's second year.The Coffee House Journals takes local, national and international issues that usually fall under the radar and helps highlight them and also takes issues currently in the news find new perspectives. More info at another time...
Other goals include going back to a university after my time in the field to help teach those with similar aspirations.
Hobbies include reading, knitting, performing (singing, guitar, dance, acting, etc.), painting, making crafts (anything from a simple card, to decorations, collages, beaded jewelry, wreaths, etc. etc.), photography, writing (in journals, poetry, stories, lyrics), listening to music (believe me when I say anything- on my interests side of this page you'll see names of bands but I can't list much less remember how many cds I own), trying new things (foods, crafts, projects, activities, etc.), cooking and making people smile.
Every time life has presented a challenge- every time I have been hurt or have had to struggle with stereotypes, money issues, family problems, deaths, my physical abilities and all of life's lessons- I have used my determination to make my goals happen. I keep pushing until I get somewhere, and it's very hard to see me give up. My determination, my stubborness to not give up (which really seems to annoy people who want to see you fail) has always and will always see me through.
